Lewis Burton arrives at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court, where his girlfriend Caroline Flack is charged with assault.

Flack, 40, was charged with assault by beating on December 13 following an incident at her home, London's Metropolitan Police previously told CNN in a statement, citing "reports of a man assaulted".

The first winter edition of Love Island, set in South Africa instead of Mallorca, premieres January 12, 2020 on ITV2 in the U.K. Flack - who has fronted the show since it premiered in 2015 - has been replaced by Irish presenter Laura Whitmore.

She is expected to appear on bail at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court.

Her lawyer Paul Morris interrupted proceedings to tell District Judge Julia Newton that Burton does not support the prosecution. But the prosecutor reportedly insisted Burton "is a victim" and "sustained a significant injury to his head".

The court gallery was full of observers and supporters, including Burton who is not supporting the prosecution. She had seen text messages which made her think he was cheating.

It was earlier claimed model Lewis, 28, was "almost begging the operator to send help" after calling 999.

Flack and Burton unfollowed each other on Instagram ahead of the hearing.

In an emotional Instagram post on Sunday evening, Flack wrote: "This is the worst time of my life".

Caroline thanked fans for their "continued support and love" on her Instagram story, adding she would be relieved when she could tell her version of events. "It's going to be a relief when I can give my side of the story when I'm allowed to".

Flack cried into her hands as Morris spoke in the court. Where to look. Who to trust.

Burton later posted a picture of himself with Flack on his Instagram Stories, with the comment: "It's heartbreaking I can't see my girlfriend over Christmas". "What I witnessed today was terrible".

"I'm glad it's Laura. she loves the show as much as I do". Arguments do happen every day in every relationship. With the Love Island gig in the New Year, Laura Whitmore's star is sure to rise even higher and if she continues to spread the love like this then we'll all be the better for it.
