Costello, a Weathersfield, Conn. native, was picked by the Seattle Mariners in the 31st round of the 2017 draft.
Minnesota Twins prospect Ryan Costello, 23, was found dead in New Zealand of apparent natural causes. In their statement, the Twins extended "most honest condolences" to Costello's family, friends, coaches and teammates.
His body was discovered in his hotel room after he failed to show up for practice Monday. Costello was set to play in the Australian Baseball League this offseason and an announcement was made by his team, the Auckland Tuatara.
"We were very sad to learn the news about the passing of former Miracle infielder Ryan Costello this morning", Fort Myers said in a statement.
The Tuatara are expected to speak to media later today to address Costello's death. "On behalf of the entire organization, the Twins send their most honest condolences to Ryan's family, friends, coaches and teammates", the team said in a statement.
