Jose Mourinho brings passion to task of reviving Tottenham

Tottenham fans actually weren't all that surprised when chairman Daniel Levy announced the termination of manager Mauricio Pochettino after a disappointing start to the team's 2019-20 campaign.

Even if he brings success to Tottenham, AS ask 'at the cost of what?' and suggest the manager will undo all the careful financial planning which had been put in place under Mauricio Pochettino... whilst also making more enemies along the way.

"We were extremely reluctant to make this change and it is not a decision the board has taken lightly, nor in haste", Levy said in a team statement about Pochettino's departure.

All three - as well as star forward Harry Kane - have been linked with moves away from Tottenham and Mourinho will face a huge test in trying to replace them should they decide to leave a club without a trophy since the 2008 EFL Cup.

This season Dybala has become a key player for Maurizio Sarri at Juve following a tough year in 2018/19.

"I am excited to be joining a club with such a great heritage and such passionate supporters", Mourinho said of his appointment.

Uruguay's Cavani confirms Messi confrontation in 2-2 draw with Argentina
Edinson Cavani opened the scoring at the 34th minute and Uruguay went into the half-time break with a 1-0 lead. Suarez scored a free-kick from outside the box to give his side the lead before Messi's late intervention.

"He's taking over a great team with great players and he's in London, the city that he loves, so for me, it's the flawless match".

The mention of Pochettino as a friend to the players was one echoed by Dele Alli, whose own tribute followed similar lines: "I can't thank this man enough".

Still, while a return to London for the former Chelsea manager is an opportunity, it also shapes as a risk after his mixed spell at Manchester United. He has won the Champions League with two clubs, Porto in 2004 and Inter Milan in 2010.

Mourinho signed a contract to the end of the 2022-23 season with Tottenham but has never spent more than 3½ years in a single stint at one club.

Mourinho was sacked by Premier League rivals United in December but the former Chelsea boss is back in management and London, where the Portuguese will be tasked with salvaging Tottenham's season.

This may be a risk for Mourinho, but it is one he needs to take.
