Democrat Andy Beshear Emerges As Apparent Winner In Narrow Ky. Governor Race

Although Bevin refused to concede defeat conceding, some prominent Kentucky Republicans were speaking as if Beshear's victory was a certainty. A recanvass is not an official recount, and one has never changed the outcome of a Kentucky gubernatorial election. "That he will help us make this transition". We take information in and attempt to sort it into preconceived narratives that fit our understanding of what is going on. However, Republican incumbent Gov. Matt Bevin is trying to hold onto his job and is requesting a recanvass.

Gov. Bevin said there were multiple irregularities in the vote totals, including absentee ballots.

Notably, in Northern Kentucky, Bevin lost Kenton and Campbell counties - two counties he won in 2015 - with 48.4% and 45% of votes, respectively.

However, Kentucky Republicans won all of the state's other constitutional offices on Tuesday, further evidence that this contest was more of a referendum on Bevin than a party shift. Bevin would need to seek and win a court's approval for a recount.

"Any Republican that tries to downplay Andy Beshear's win, and it looks like he will win, they are whistling past the graveyard", Kaine, who was on Hillary Clinton's 2016 ticket as the vice president nominee, said during an appearance on CNN's "Cuomo Primetime" late Tuesday, noting Virginia borders Kentucky.

Kentucky's Senate President Robert Stivers, a Republican, hinted at that possibility Tuesday night after Beshear declared victory.

While Bevin wasn't conceding, some prominent Kentucky Republicans conceded that Beshear won.

The president tweeted about the elections too, following some of the Republicans' talking points that his campaign rally Monday in Kentucky "had a massive impact on all of the races".

Bad Luck? Black Cat Wandered On Field During Giants-Cowboys Game
Moments later, (the Giants ) kicked a field goal to make it 12-3. "We had no doubt we were going to finish this game off". This time Jones scrambled to reach the first-down marker, only to be rocked by Woods, who forced the ball loose.

As of Wednesday, the number of election law complaints reported to the attorney general's office was on par with those made in 2015. With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Beshear received 709,673 to Bevin's 704,523, a difference of 5,150 votes. He exploited Bevin's feud with teachers over pensions and education issues, which resonated with voters.

Elsewhere, the Republicans lost control of the Virginia legislature but cruised to victory in a MS race Democrats again thought they had a genuine chance to win.

"In a democracy, we can not allow politicians to just overrule election results", tweeted Sanders, a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate.

"I'm here to officially declare today, November 5, 2019, that Virginia is officially blue", Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam told a crowd of supporters in Richmond.

Virginia Democrats Wednesday found themselves in control of the entire Legislature and the governor's mansion for the first time since 1993.

"Kentucky is one of the most Republican states in the country". In heavily Democratic New Jersey, Democrats maintained control of the Legislature. But Bevin's unpopularity does not explain the results in Virginia.

However, Tuesday's elections were not all catastrophic for the Republicans.

Bevin, whose personality is much like Trump's, had the backing of national Republicans, with the Republican Governors' Association pouring millions into ad buys backing him. A Democratic trifecta in Richmond puts the party in the driving seat before redistricting based on the 2020 census. It has voted Democrat in every presidential election since 2008 and pollsters expect the Virginia to continue the trend for 2020.
