His comments come one day after Iranian state-run media reported that Mr. Rouhani had no intention of meeting Mr. Trump at the U.N. General Assembly next week.

"I think we need to make sure that the American people understand that this administration - that lies about weather maps or crowd sizes - can not be trusted to give us the full information we need to be able to make a decision whether we should be going to war or not with Iran", she said.

Iranian officials have reiterated their refusal to a meeting and any possible dialogues with the USA while Tehran is still under strict United States sanctions, which Trump re-imposed post withdrawing from 2015 landmark global Iranian nuclear accord, inked between Tehran and world powers to curb Iran's nuclear programme in exchange of sanctions relief.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Iranian supreme leader said any direct negotiations with Washington were out of the question.

Iran responded by scaling back its commitments under the landmark accord, which gave it the promise of sanctions relief in return for limiting the scope of its nuclear program.
