Van Dijk joins Messi, Ronaldo on three-man UEFA award shortlist


The victor will be named - along with the UEFA Women's Player of the Year and UEFA Champions League positional award winners - during the group stage draw in Monaco on 29 August.

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has been shortlisted alongside Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for the men's UEFA Player of the Year award.

Messi is still in the running after he finished as the top scorer in the Champions League and won the European Golden Shoe en route picking up his tenth La Liga title with Barcelona. "I was top scorer in the Champions League six seasons in a row".
