The US has intelligence that Osama bin Laden's son Hamza is dead, according to media reports citing unnamed US officials.

Asked whether Hamza bin Laden was dead, Donald Trump, the U.S. president, said: "I don't want to comment on it".

Hamza bin Laden is believed to have been born around 1989. Hamza went with him and appeared in al-Qaeda propaganda videos.

Hamza bin Laden, who has been in hiding since 2011, released a public statement in 2018 calling for the Arabian Peninsula to rise and overthrow their respective governments, specifically calling out Saudi Arabia.

Trump says he is 'least racist' person anywhere
Mr Trump's acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney defended the President, saying the tweets against Mr Cummings were not racist . Sharpton and Trump have ties going back to their New York City circles, but Trump balked at any close past relationship.

As leader of al-Qaeda, Osama oversaw operations against Western targets that culminated in the 9/11 attacks on the Pentagon and New York's World Trade Center, which killed 3,000 people when a series of four passenger airliners were hijacked by 19 terrorists.

Osama bin Laden was killed by Navy SEALs in 2011 during a raid in Pakistan. Hamza was thought to be under house arrest in Iran at the time, and documents recovered from the compound indicated that aides had been trying to reunite him with his father. A piece written by counterterror expert and former Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Ali Soufan warned that "Hamza is being prepared for a leadership role in the organization his father founded". Letters seized during the raid showed bin Laden was grooming his son to take over. "With the Islamic State's "caliphate" apparently on the verge of collapse, Hamza is now the figure best placed to reunify the global jihadi movement".

The FBI had offered a reward of up to $1 million for information that lead to Hamza's whereabouts. Hamza was also reportedly married to the daughter of a senior al-Qaeda leader, Abdullah Ahmed Abdullah, who operates under the alias Abu Muhammad al Masri.

Separately, the White House declined to comment on whether any an announcement was imminent.
