After years of rumors and tales of reboots and a revolving door of talented folks all taking a crack at this iconic and mind-bending universe, the new film will return to where it all began.

According to Variety, Lana Wachowski, Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss have all signed on to head back into The Matrix.

It's certainly fortuitous timing, given that the first Matrix film is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year with special screenings at AMC theaters starting later this month. As of this writing there's no title, so we're just gonna call it The Matrix 4 until we have one.

Neither Variety's report nor Warner Bros.'s announcement clarified whether Lilly will be involved in the sequel's production.

"We could not be more excited to be re-entering "The Matrix" with Lana", said Emmerich.

In a statement, Wachowski said "Many of the ideas [sister and The Matrix co-director] Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now".

With Keanu Reeves on a hot-streak following the massive success of John Wick 3 and also with Bill & Ted 3 in the works, excitement is palpable.
