United Kingdom charity warns no-deal Brexit threatens science, research

Johnson has spoken by phone with EU leaders including European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, but so far has no scheduled face-to-face talks.

Philip Hammond is plotting with Labour to stop Boris Johnson delivering a no-deal Brexit.

"They agreed that Brexit offers an unparalleled opportunity to strengthen the economic partnership between the UK and United States", said a British government statement. Varadkar warned a no-deal Brexit could see more people in the North question the union with England, Scotland and Wales.

"It is tragic that just when we could have been the dominant intellectual and political force throughout Europe, and beyond, we have to spend every working day working beneath the dark cloud of Brexit", Foreign Office Minister Alan Duncan, who resigned prior to the results, wrote in his resignation letter to May.

After a phone name with Boris Johnson on Friday, the USA president said the new high minister would be "tall".

Mr Gove said tweaks to Theresa May's withdrawal agreement - which was approved by the European Union but resoundingly rejected by Parliament - would not be enough.

"He reiterated the message he delivered in the House of Commons yesterday: Parliament has rejected the Withdrawal Agreement three times and so the United Kingdom must fully prepare for the alternative - which is to leave without a deal on October 31", the spokesman said in a statement.

Mr Johnson has insisted he's eager to get a deal before October 31st.

USA sanctions Chinese firm for buying Iranian oil
In May, the USA ended waivers that had allowed some countries, including China, to keep buying some Iranian crude. On Monday, Iran's intelligence ministry acknowledged it had broken up a stare ring linked to the CIA last month .

The additional spending will include financing one of the country's "biggest ever public information campaigns" to ensure individuals and businesses are ready for a no-deal exit, Mr Javid told the Sunday Telegraph.

But despite several Tory MPs voicing their opposition to Mr Johnson in his first week in Downing Street, an opinion poll has suggested a recent boost in support for the party.

"The approach that the British prime minister seems to now be taking is not going to be the basis of an agreement, and that's worrying for everybody", Coveney said.

Writing in The Sunday Times newspaper on Sunday, Michael Gove, who Johnson has put in charge of "no-deal" preparations, said the government would undertake "intensive efforts" to secure a better deal from the EU.

A total of 17 ministers in Mrs May's government either resigned or were sacked, creating a powerful new group of enemies in Parliament.

Sajid Javid, 49, was named as his Finance Minister.

Mr Johnson also defied Ms Davidson when he appointed Alister Jack as Scottish Secretary after she expressed a preference for David Mundell to be kept in post.
