Trump says he is 'least racist' person anywhere

President Trump doubled down on his attacks against congressmember and House Oversight Chair Elijah Cummings Monday, saying he was to blame for Baltimore's crime rates and again lashing out over Cummings's questioning at his committee's hearing over the dire conditions for migrants at the US border.

US President Donald Trump has renewed his attacks on a black US congressman from Baltimore and slammed black civil rights activist Reverend Al Sharpton, drawing a rebuke from Maryland's Republican Governor and the black former Republican Party national chairman. He 'loved Trump!' He would ask me for favors often.

"My message to the president is: stop tweeting and send federal help and federal resources to the city of Baltimore".

"I think I'm helping myself because I'm pointing out the corruption in Baltimore", Trump responded. But as Lemon pointed out, some 600,000 people live there, and if some of them are in squalid conditions, there's a chance the president's own family is not only involved but profiting off it. Sharpton has known Trump for many years. "They really appreciate it", Trump continued, touting that unemployment for African-Americans has been "the lowest in the history of our country" under his administration.

"There's no strategy, I have no strategy, there's zero strategy", he said. Now, I'll say this: "they are so happy, because I get the calls", he told reporters as he left for a speech in Virginia that was boycotted by black state lawmakers.

Sharpton and Trump have ties going back to their New York City circles, but Trump balked at any close past relationship.

Democrats immediately rallied to Cummings' side, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who was born in Baltimore, and Sen.

Mr Trump's acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney defended the President, saying the tweets against Mr Cummings were not racist.

A Cummings supporter, the Rev. Al Sharpton, has called Trump a bigot. "Al Sharpton is a racist".

On Tuesday morning, Trump alleged without evidence that Cummings is corrupt and that the long-serving member of Congress was responsible for Baltimore's high crime rate and poverty, saying that Cummings rules the city "with a very iron hand" (as a member of Congress, Cummings represents a portion of Baltimore but has no hand in its governance).

"Cummings should take his oversight committee and take them down to Baltimore and study the billions and billions of dollars that's been stolen", Trump said. 'You take the top ten most risky cities in this country, and they are all controlled by Democrats'.
