Tom Cruise is back in action!

It was the film that cemented Tom Cruise's status as a heartthrob, and now it's back for a sequel. The actor's insistence on performing the majority of his own stunts and flying alone has become his personal trademark, yet he was evidently not allowed to fly the F/A 18 Hornets utilized in the film, in light of the fact that the USA government doesn't give civilians a chance to fly military hardware. The 2 minutes 12 seconds trailer opens with stunning visuals of Cruise's character Maverick returning to the cockpit, speeding over salt flats.

The trailer is jam-packed full of throwbacks to the original film including fast jets, shirtless volleyball, a motorcycle, attractive people kissing, and Cruise's ageless face.

"When you see the film, you'll see why she's flawless for it", Cruise said. "Thirty-four years you guys have been very patient with me, and I felt it was my responsibility to finally really deliver for you", he said while unveiling the first trailer.

"Top Gun" was released in 1986. Since the Mission: Impossible actor first played fighter pilot Maverick in 1986, he has obtained his pilot's licence and shown off his skills on camera with aerial stunts in films such as 2017's American Made and 2018's Mission: Impossible - Fallout. The film will also see Cruise's Maverick now being "a flight instructor, who takes Bradley Bradshaw (played by Miles Teller), the son of Maverick's late partner Nick "Goose" Bradshaw, under his wing".

"Top Gun: Maverick" is anticipated to cruise into theaters in 2020.
