The first season follows Lyra (Keen), a seemingly ordinary but courageous young woman from another world.
Things in Lyra's world, one alternate to our own in which every human has an animal companion called a dæmon that serves as the embodiment of their soul and spirit, become even more unbelievable when she partners with Will (Amir Wilson), a boy with just as much courage as she has. "Together, they encounter extraordinary beings and unsafe secrets, with the fate of both the living - and the dead - in their hands". In 2007, director Chris Weitz adapted the first book of the His Dark Materials trilogy, The Golden Compass, for the big screen with stars Nicole Kidman, Dakota Blue Richards, Daniel Craig, Sam Elliott, Eva Green, and Ian McKellen.
In addition to Keene, His Dark Materials will star Ruth Wilson as Marissa Coulter, Lin-Manuel Miranda as Lee Scoresby, and James McAvoy as Lord Asriel.
