Federer Defeats Nadal to Reach Wimbledon Final; Djokovic Next

No. 2 Federer ranks first among men with 20 career Grand Slam titles.

After watching Bautista Agut's shot hit the net tape, pop in the air and slide over for a victor that tied things at a set apiece, Centre Court spectators stood and cheered, perhaps envisioning a tight match.

For me, this is partially about how RBA handles the occasion, and if he does that successfully (where the likes of Berrettini didn't) he's got a set in him and the 3-1 to Djokovic appeals at 3.75. He went on to win the set 6-3.

Roger Federer celebrates winning a point against Rafael Nadal at the 2019 Wimbledon Championships on July 12, 2019.

Federer was locked into the match from the moment he delivered an ace with the first ball and, apart from that dip in the second set, neutralised Nadal's weapons throughout. Nadal has won 18 and will look to pull in just one behind the Swiss veteran with a win today and in the final Sunday.

Federer won the first set 7-6 (3).

After missing four match points, a dramatic ending saw Federer clinch victory in three hours and three minutes when Nadal whacked a backhand long.

Djokovic has been in fine form, losing only set thus far, to Polish 22 year old Herbert Hurkacz, who provided a stern challenge. Federer won his record eighth Wimbledon title in 2017, but lost to Djokovic in the final in both 2014 and 2015.

Joe Biden apologizes for comments about working with segregationist senators
Kamala Harris and Cory Booker (D-N.J.) seized the opportunity to hit Biden. I do not recall Biden attacking her for her past history. Added more debt than all other Presidents combined.

However, Djokovic in a Wimbledon semi-final is a different entity.

It was first blood Federer after he twice came from a mini-break down to win a tense tie-break, but Nadal yanked up his sweat bands and barely put a foot wrong as he charged around the court at blistering speed to level a gripping match. Federer and Nadal were to play next on Centre Court.

With the victory, Djokovic has reached his 25th Grand Slam final.

There would have been concerns for Federer fans when he skewed a forehand high into the crowd, yet he was calmness personified in the third, racing across the turf and aggressively moving a set away from another final.

Expect the Spaniard to give it all he has like he always does, but Djokovic to make his way to another major final, in three well-fought sets. The reigning champ topped Roberto Bautista Agut in four sets in Friday's earlier semifinal.

In the third, Djokovic broke for a 4-2 lead and then saved two break points in the next game - the second with a backhand victor down the line after a 45-stroke rally.

Federer hasn't impressed this grass swing by his standards and I have to wonder whether or not he's still capable of going to five sets against Nadal these days. Federer and Nadal featured in the 2019 French Open semi-final, where Nadal beat Federer in straight sets.
