On the playlist for the victory parade were two Nigerian stars, Davido and Burna Boy, whose music left many fans dancing at the Canadian city.

Kelly says Ujiri also shouted obscenities at the deputy.

"We won't let this act of violence take away from the spirit of today's parade", he said.

"I stopped at one place on the way home last night and the whole place went insane when I walked in the door", he said of his return home on Saturday.

"I told my boss I wanted to be at the parade and he said there wasn't much he could do if I called in sick, so that's exactly what I did", the 31-year-old said.

They are urging fans to stay off the road so that the players and their floats can move along.

"Right across the city, tens and tens of thousands of people were celebrating".

"You can't have people in a small space (like where the shooting occurred) and say I didn't see anything", he said.

Then the procession will pass a small area of Queen Street in an easterly direction and arrive to the building of Toronto city hall on Nathan Phillips Square.

Fans held up signs and enlarged heads of their basketball idols like Leonard and Fred VanVleet.

Other veterans on the Raptors' roster are waiting to see which direction Leonard will go, including Marc Gasol and Danny Green, who can become free agents on June 30.

Expressing solidarity with their junior colleagues, senior doctors said that their demands were quite justified. The country's top medical body also announced a nationwide strike on Monday.

It's time for a parade!

"Please do not impede the parade route".

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be among those celebrating, making a brief visit to Toronto for the event.

Tory had proclaimed this 17 July as "We the North Day" - playing on the team's slogan "We the North" - to commemorate the historic season.

"We got a few surprises up our sleeves but we are going to leave some of that for (Monday)", he said.

Several bystanders intervened and Ujiri got onto the court without displaying any credentials, Kelly said.

The festivities were briefly suspended as one of the hosts alerted the masses, most of whom had been there since the morning, that there was an emergency. "I'm sure he feels that people here love him, and after this moment, that's the most important".

"Today's history lesson in room 137!"

As the parade inched forward - discernibly behind schedule - a number of Raptors could not help but marvel at the fan response.

Not that any one seemed to have minded on a glorious day, weather-wise.

"We haven't been through one of these since the World Series parades in the 90s".
