R. Kelly charged with 11 new sex-related counts in Chicago


R. Kelly is now facing 11 additional felony counts of sexual assault charges.

A person convicted in IL of aggravated criminal sexual assault can be sentenced to between six and 30 years in prison, according to IL law.

Earlier this year, Kelly, 52, pleaded not guilty to 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse pertaining to four women, including three who were minors at the time the abuse allegedly occurred.

The Chicago Sun-Times notes that the initials of the victim in the 2010 case match one of the four victims listed in the February charges. Now his situation has gotten even worse, as there are new charges against him, and they are serious. The disgraced singer is scheduled to appear in court on June 6, CBS Chicago reported. Later that same day, he was freed from Cook County Jail after a friend posted $100,000 - 10 percent of the $1 million bond. The existing allegations were also said to have occurred years before.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, these alleged crimes happened nine years ago in 2010, but may not be associated with a new victim.

The Cook County State's Attorney's office, which is prosecuting the case, did not immediately return a request for comment.
