'It Pissed Everybody Off:' Chicago Police Sounds Off on Smollett's Hoax


February 2 - Smollett tells a concert in West Hollywood that was OK, and that his doctors had cleared him to perform at the show, which was scheduled before the alleged attack.

Smollett's attorneys denied the actor was complicit in the attack.

The Associated Press adds that Smollett has turned himself in, and if convicted he could face up to three years in prison as well as having to reimburse the investigation costs. "They do harm to every legitimate victim who's in need of support".

Police officers have reported that they have the cheque paid to brothers Olabinjo and Abimbola Osundairo, who both worked as extras on Empire. Johnson said he believes the cuts and bruises on Smollett's face after the attack were self-inflicted.

The men - Ola and Abel Osundairo - had left the U.S. following the alleged attack and were held for almost 48 hours after they returned last week.

Smollett, who is accused of filing a false police report, was charged Wednesday with felony disorder conduct. Now of course, the Chicago Police Department will continue to investigate all reports of these types of events with the same amount of vigor that we did with this one.

Smollett plays Jamal Lyon, the son of music mogul Lucious Lyon, on "Empire", which is in its fifth season and returns to the air March 13.

Smollett, a 36-year-old black, openly gay actor on the hip-hop TV drama Empire, ignited a firestorm on social media by telling police that two apparent supporters of US President Donald Trump had struck him, put a noose around his neck and poured bleach over him.

The actor will appear at a court hearing later today.

Jussie Smollett has been charged with "orchestrating" his own attack, according to the Chicago PD.
