Close but it's Olivia Colman for best actress at Oscars


Colman arrived onstage in an emotional state while admitting that this was "genuinely quite stressful" before remarking, "This is hilarious!" Her "people" said it was next to impossible, timing wise.

Picking out Close in the audience, Colman said: "You've been my idol for so long and this is not how I wanted it to be".

Colman also praised her co-stars, calling Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz "the two loveliest women in the world to fall in love with". "The fact that I'm celebrating him and this story with you tonight is proof that we're longing for stories like this", said Malek on stage.

The actress won the Oscars trophy for Best Actress for her performance as the eccentric, queer Queen Anne in "The Favourite".

She went on thank her family and joked she hoped her children were watching as "this isn't going to happen again".

In a delightful and shocking twist, Olivia Colman took home the Academy Award for Best Actress on Sunday night (February 24) for her work in The Favourite.

Sound engineer Paul Massey took the sound mixing prize for Bohemian Rhapsody alongside John Casali and Tim Cavagin.
