Trump presses border wall ahead of meeting with top Democrats

Incoming Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) continued to go oops! upside Donald Trump's head on Thursday, mocking Trump's false claim that Mexico is actually paying for the border wall by declaring the Oval Office "an evidence-free zone".

On Tuesday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer visited the White House to meet with President Donald Trump to discuss his proposed border wall and a potential government shutdown.

During their gripping televised spat, Trump told Schumer of a looming partial shutdown over his demands for a wall: 'You want to put that on [me], I'll take it'.

"We simply can not allow people to pour into the United States, undetected, undocumented, unchecked", Obama says before the camera returns to Trump, who then accuses Democrats of opposing his funding requests for the wall on personal animus.

Hoyer and other Democrats said Republicans should approve six of the remaining seven appropriations bills needed to keep the government open, and pass a separate measure covering the Department of Homeland Security at current levels through September 30.

Asked if a compromise was possible, Pelosi told reporters on Tuesday: "We'll see". "I will shut down the government", the president said.

"We're doing this in a very friendly manner", Trump said, as Vice President Mike Pence sat beside him, silent and stony-faced. I think the Oval Office is an evidence-free zone.

The agreement, to be ratified by the House Democrats on February 15, also proposes term limits on Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Md., who is 79 and Assistant Minority Leader James Clyburn, D-S.C., who is 78.

Later, Pelosi said Trump talked so much about the border wall, "it's like a manhood thing for him".

For the past two years, Pelosi has repeatedly said she had initially meant to retire after the 2016 elections but made a decision to stay on and continue leading House Democrats after Trump's upset victory.

"If I needed the votes for the wall in the House, I would have them in one session, it would be done", Trump bragged. "He said, 'They're paying for the wall with the money we're gonna make over the newly revised USMCA, ' formerly known as NAFTA, whatever it is, formerly known as NAFTA".

"We got Scotch tape, the clear kind", one analyst recalled to the publication.

She said the president had responded that she should inform the press because it would be news to them.

Trump wants at least $5 billion for the wall in the next funding package.

Under the deal struck, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has agreed to limit her service in the top post to no more than two more terms - or four additional years.

Thursday morning, Trump tweeted that Mexico would still technically pay for the wall, through the additional money the USA will make from the not-yet-ratified United States-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) trade agreement.

"Illegal immigration is wrong, plain and simple", Schumer says.
