Cormier defeats Lewis to retain heavyweight crown

Daniel Cormier made certain it played out as most expected.

Daniel Cormier vs. Derrick Lewis for the UFC World Heavyweight Championship took place at UFC 230 in Madison Square Garden in New York City.

"If Derrick Lewis wins eat for free from 2-4 on Sunday" at Popeyes on 9120 Barker Cypress Rd, Cypress, TX 7743. That dude actually got in so much s**t that they just said, "Here, DC, you can just have the belt back" the last time after he knocked me out. The tapout followed soon after.

He just needs one punch, and even if we've said that before all-too-recently, that doesn't mean it's impossible. The challenger was completely out of his depth but managed to make it to the end of the round.

Lewis opened the fight by throwing a bunch of kicks, but it was Cormier who controlled the action from the outset, using his Olympic-level wrestling to score a single-leg takedown and get the fight to the ground early.

UFC President Dana White recently stated that he had no problems with Lesnar bring the WWE Universal Championship with him to the octagon, although he didn't believe that was something Vince McMahon would allow.

More recently, Russia's space program has been dogged by a string of failed satellite launches involving unmanned vehicles. Russian Federation stands to lose that monopoly with the arrival of SpaceX's Dragon and Boeing's Starliner crew capsules.

Jones' comments were put to Cormier in the post-fight press conference and he didn't shy away from lambasting his rival over his failed drug tests, the most recent of which detected traces of the banned anabolic steroid Turainbol in his system. "Last Thanksgiving, I got a little insane".

Cormier was a bit of a surprise main eventer in a card that has been shuffled because of injuries and the dire need to find a quality main event at MSG. He had won nine of his last 10 fights and his self-deprecating humour - including a randy answer as to why he stripped off his shorts inside the cage after his last win - earned him a sponsorship deal with Popeyes Chicken.

In the co-main event, Brazilian veteran Jacare Souza stunned home favorite Chris Weidman with a third-round TKO win in their middleweight contest.

Souza rebounded from a loss to Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 224 and did it with a busted nose. Adesanya landed a knee to the face that stumbled Brunson and finished him off with a left that had the crowd on its feet.
