Mariano Diaz to be given Cristiano Ronaldo's old No.7 shirt

Real Madrid have finally made a move to replace Cristiano RonaldoWhat's the story?

Real Madrid have completed the signing of former striker Mariano Diaz from Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyon, the club have confirmed on their website.

Mariano, a player of Dominican-Spanish decent who chose to represent the Dominican Republic at worldwide level spent part of his development at Real Madrid.

No, Mariano isn't the big name that Real fans had hoped for - although, he did manage 21 goals in France a year ago - and that will understandably put pressure on him as he's filling the void left by their greatest ever goalscorer.

Prime Minister May in response welcomed the assurance by the Nigerian government on credible elections in 2019. It made the plea on Tuesday in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan.

However, Real Madrid have hijacked the transfer, by activating a first refusal option that they had inserted in the deal with Lyon while sanctioning the striker's sale.

The 21-year-old is now considering his future and the real opportunity to move away and earn some pitch time which wouldn't be possible in Madrid.

Despite earlier claims that the club had assigned the seven shirt to Mariano, it's claimed by Goal that the player requested the number after signing his five-year deal. Due to this stipulation, Real Madrid paid a discounted price for Mariano who is valued at around €35 million.

"The player will be presented this Friday, August 31, at 1:30 p.m., in the honor box of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium". He will then speak to the press in the press room.
