Ex-White House aide says Trump trying to silence her

Trump's campaign is filing an arbitration action against her as well, alleging a breach of a secrecy agreement.

The book "Unhinged", by former White House staffer Omarosa Manigault Newman on her time in the White House administration, is seen for sale in Manhattan, New York, Aug. 14, 2018. Omarosa has now released audio of the secretly recorded conversation to CBS News, which you can listen to below.

The reality TV star, who became famous while appearing alongside Trump on The Apprentice TV show, later made secret recordings of the president and others.

He added that - contrary to an audio clip Omarosa shared on Today, in which he can be heard saying, "I don't love you leaving" - he was happy to have "that dog" out of the White House.

In the recording, which she played on NBC's Meet the Press on Sunday, Kelly told Manigault Newman the firing was the result of "significant integrity issues" and that she could face damage to her reputation if she did not make it a "friendly departure".

His comment immediately prompted criticism on both sides of the political aisle.

The president, who has an aversion to dogs and other pets, considers canine comparisons to be among his most devastating put-downs.

The Omarosa of popular imagination is in large part Trump's creation, and that creation is wreaking havoc on the White House.

"How dare he? He has taken this country to its knees", said Democratic congresswoman Frederica Wilson.

In the league it's exactly the same. "It is like scientists without trying to see if it really works". We have little things we have to think about, if it's a risk or not, if we take the risk or not.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders has said the book is "riddled with lies and false accusations".

"The president is an equal opportunity person that calls things like he sees it".

In a tweet earlier on Monday, he said he wanted to ensure the "Fake News Media" doesn't lend her story an air of plausibility.

"I will not be intimidated", she told the AP. The similarities between that deal and the one I was offered after my White House departure - in that case, my silence in exchange for a job - can not be denied. Prior to the campaign, Manigault Newman had been a contestant on Trump's reality-TV game show, "The Apprentice".

Now, the Trump campaign is taking legal action. "Obviously, her performance as a key aide to the president was substandard". Already she's released a recording of a phone call she got from Trump after she was sacked in December, in which Trump played dumb about it.

And now, like in the "Jurassic Park" film series - in which the dinosaurs turn on the scientists who created them - Manigault Newman has unleashed Trump's own tricks and tactics on him. "And there was nothing anyone could do to stop her", Manigault-Newman writes.

He tweeted that he had received a call from the producer of The Apprentice, assuring him "there are NO TAPES of the Apprentice where I used such a awful and disgusting word as attributed by Wacky and Deranged Omarosa".
