Virginia Tech common book author Eric Greitens resigns as governor of Missouri


"I can not allow those forces to continue to cause pain and difficulty for the people that I love". I know and people of good faith know that I am not flawless.

In his resignation announcement, Greitens said he could not allow his critics "to continue to cause pain and difficulty to the people that I love". Defense attorneys for Greitens contacted her office over the weekend to strike a deal.

Greitens ended the news conference saying he will "always be a fighter for the people of Missouri". He was facing possible impeachment. The charge says the incident occurred in April 2015. He is accused of illegally obtaining a donor list to aid his 2016 election campaign from a veterans' charity he founded in 2007. A former campaign aide testified that he was duped into taking the fall when the campaign tried to explain how it had gotten the list.

Greitens was under investigation in the Republican-controlled Missouri Legislature, and he faced a serious threat of impeachment.

The university served as the administrator for a grant from the John Templeton Foundation.

State law requires candidates to form committees when they raise or spend more than $500. The Confide app prevents recipients from saving, forwarding, printing or taking screenshots of messages. Hawley turned his evidence over to St. Louis prosecutors.
