It was only a matter of time until an National Football League team drafted him, but that's where this story gets even better. He has earned this opportunity and the Seahawks' fans are pretty excited to see how he will help out the team.
Prior to Griffin, NFL.com says Ellis Jones was the first one-handed player before the Super Bowl era to be drafted, in 1945.
He starred at college level, winning his conference's defensive player of the year award in 2016 and playing in an unbeaten University of Central Florida team last season.
I anxious I was being overly sentimental to think the Seahawks should choose the one-handed linebacker from Central Florida who just so happened to be the twin brother of Shaquill Griffin, the cornerback the Seahawks drafted in the third round a year ago. His twin brother, Shaquill, recognized the 425 area code that flashed on the screen and started charging after his brother.
There's one more component to this heartwarming story.
Griffin waited during the first two days of the draft in the green room of AT&T Stadium's backdrop while player after player had their names announced. If he comes in and impresses the Seahawks with his skills, intelligence and work ethic, we could see both Griffin brothers on the field, with Shaquem taking over for Michael Wilhoite at the strongside linebacker position.

Douma was the last town fall to a government and Russian offensive in the formerly rebel-held Eastern Ghouta region near Damascus. On Friday, regime forces seized control of buildings inside both Qadam and Hajar Al Aswad, the Observatory said.
His undeveloped left hand was amputated when he was four after the pain led him to try to cut off his own fingers.
Shaquem told ESPN on Friday he'd love to join his brother in Seattle, joking that the "Legion of Griffins" might replace the infamous Legion of Boom. "I was trying to get the words out, but I couldn't talk", he said.
"He will be a big factor in special teams".
Shaquem drew attention at this year's scouting combine, when he bench-pressed 102kg 20 times using a prosthetic hand.
Carroll and Schneider, though, said that for now, Ryan will remain on the roster and compete with Dickson. Griffin's selection and reuniting with his twin brother Shaquill (a cornerback for the Seahawks) received universal praise.
Yet there is one aspect of Griffin's game that can not be measured - his drive to prove his doubters wrong.
