Sushma Swaraj meets Wang Yi, upbeat on Sino-Indian ties

"It is likely to soon be an important occasion in order for them to exchange views on bilateral and global matters using the objective of improving mutual communication at level of leaders", Swaraj mentioned at the press briefing.

Mr. Modi will be visiting the central Chinese city at the invitation of Mr. Xi, Mr. Wang said at a joint media event with visiting External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj after their talks.

The two leaders will have communications of a "strategic nature concerning shift going (on) in the world".

"India's membership to the SCO has expanded the orgainsation's potential and its influence, as well as providing a new platform for the India-China cooperation and I believe that India will make a positive and energetic contribution to the organisation", Wang said.

"In our view, the global situation is undergoing a profound change and China and India are growing rapidly and simultaneously".

"Our common interests far outweigh our differences".

Last year, China stopped sharing data soon after the 73-day long stand-off between Indian and Chinese troops at Dokalam over Chinese military's plans to build a road close to India's Chicken Neck corridor connecting North-Eastern states.

Ms Swaraj said the two sides agreed that as two major countries and large emerging economies, healthy development of India-China relations was important for the emergence of the Asian Century. In the joint address wang hinted at taking India and China ties to a new level, Wang said, "We see socialism with Chinese characteristics entering a new era and India acts as a crucial stage in its development & revitalisation".

On bilateral ties, she said, the progress made by the two countries in the last few months has also contributed to building trust and understanding.

He will be the first Chinese official in recent years who will hold the dual posts of State Councillor and Foreign Minister.

Swaraj will also take part in a preparatory meeting in the capital on Tuesday for the annual Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit to be held in the eastern coastal city of Qingdao in June.

While no major agreements were expected to be reached at the summit, the two leaders will have candid talks on the contentious issues like Xis pet project, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) whose flagship project, the United States dollars 50 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has become a major stumbling block for the bilateral ties.

Modi will visit China on April 27-28.
