Fadi Mohammad al-Batsh, 35, was struck down in a hail of bullets by motorbike-riding attackers Saturday as he walked to a mosque for dawn prayers.

"We believe the suspects are still in the country", he said.

Speaking at press conference this morning, the Inspector General of Police told reporters that he may have used fake documents to enter the country.

The police chief said the suspects are believed to have entered Malaysia since the end of January until the time of the shootings.

Malaysian police had earlier released computer-generated images of the two suspects, who witnesses described as well-built and light-skinned, possibly Middle Eastern or European.

The suspects - two men wearing full-faced helmets - had waited 20 minutes on a high-powered motorcycle near Jalan Meranti before the attack, said the police.

A report published this month by the Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center found that at least 26 of those killed were actively involved with terrorist groups; a significant number were members of the Izz a-Din al-Qassam military wing of Gaza's ruling Hamas terror organization.

Abu Hussein will be buried in Gaza on Thursday.

Most of the Palestinians killed by Israel since the start of "March of Return" protests on March 30 were shot by snipers on the border, while a few others were killed by Israeli occupation artillery or air strikes.

Batsh's expertise in making weapons could have made him a target - fighters in Hamas-ruled Gaza regularly fire rockets at southern Israel.

The Mossad is believed to have assassinated Palestinian militants and scientists in the past, but rarely confirms such operations.

Al Batsh was a lecturer at Universiti Kuala Lumpur, specialising in power engineering, according to the university.

Abu Hussein was transferred to Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah, in central West Bank, on April 16, before he was moved to Tel HaShomer Israeli Hospital, on April 19, where he succumbed to his serious wounds.
