Fog advisory in Toronto, freezing rain warning in parts of GTA

"Everyone starts off as snowfall Monday night becoming heavier through the evening and overnight period with roads likely becoming slushy and ice covered", says Weather Network meteorologist Erin Wenckstern. Freezing rain is on the way.

A major winter storm is coming to Quebec early in the week and it's expected to launch with snow, then rain, wind and freezing rain.

"Some freezing rain is also possible for Manitoulin and possibly the North Bay area".

A special weather statement is in effect for all of York Region for Monday with freezing rain expected for your Monday morning and afternoon commute. Much of it will be rain since temperatures will be above the freezing mark, but if temperatures dip, freezing rain may occur, making roads and sidewalks slippery.

Environment Canada issued warnings for the Greater Montreal Area, the Eastern Townships, Lanaudière, the Laurentians, as well as the St. Lawrence, Ottawa and Richelieu River valleys.

The agency says conditions are expected to improve but the fog will likely continue throughout Monday and overnight into Tuesday morning.
