Watering days differ for Donala and Colorado Springs

Customers of Donala Water and Sanitation District have assigned watering days, but they are not the same as Colorado Springs Utilities.

There has been some confusion about what days to water. And, in a letter to Donala customers, general manager Kip Petersen said CSU has aired television spots reminding customers of their watering days. It has created some confusion since Donala's watering days are different from CSU.

“We are not Colorado Springs,” Petersen said.

Donala is currently following phase 3 irrigation standards, which allow outdoor watering two days a week. Because Donala is contracted with CSU for water transfer, they are required by contract, to follow the same standards.

Donala residential customers who have odd number addresses can water on Monday and Friday. Those with even number addresses, and addresses ending in zero, can water on Tuesday and Saturday. Commercial customers have separate assigned watering days not based on addresses. On assigned days customers can water from midnight to 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. to midnight.

For the previous seven years, Donala customers were allowed to water three days a week. The assigned watering days are the same as previous years, but the third day has been eliminated from the schedule.

“We've gone in and deleted that middle day,” Petersen said.
