Another popular business in downtown Monument will soon be closing their doors. The Prickly Pear is scheduled to close at the end of January.
Owner Carolyn Mangold is retiring after being in business for 25 years. Employee Kaye Byers, who has worked at Prickly Pear for 15 years, said Mangold opened Prickly Pear 25-years-ago in Colorado Springs and then moved the business to downtown Monument after a few years. The business was located on Front Street originally but moved to its current location on Second Street after the fire at the Coffee Cup.
The Prickly Pear is currently having a retirement sale and all merchandise is marked down 40, 50, 60 and 75 percent off.
Byers said since announcing the closing of the business, long-time and regular customers have stopped by the store.
“Everybody is going to miss her,” Byers said of Mangold.
Just because Mangold is closing the store doesn't mean she plans to completely retire. Byers said she will continue working with florals from her home. She has provided florals for the Parade of Homes for several years and will continue to do so as well as for other clients.
