Kids fight hunger with food packages
Trinity Lutheran Church in Monument sponsored a Kids Against Hunger food packaging event that will feed 18,000 hungry children and family members. Kids Against Hunger is a nonprofit humanitarian food aid organization that was formed in the 1970s to battle starvation among the world's neediest children.
The packaging event on April 13 brought together 150 volunteers: U.S. Air Force Academy cadets, the Palmer Ridge High School basketball and football teams, Palmer Ridge National Honor Roll and National Junior Honor Roll students and church members. Each small vegetarian package offers a full-day's supply of protein and vitamins for six people. The 3,000 packages they filled will stay in the United States because international shipments require heavier-duty shipping pallets.
