Feb. 16 Boys Basketball
Lewis-Palmer moved to 17-5 overall
and 12-2 in league play with a 99-39 thrashing of Mesa Ridge. The
Rangers, led by 24 points from Josh Scott, 21 from Jordan Ververs
and 16 from Kyle Englehardt, jumped out to a 34-4 lead after one
quarter of play, held a 57-10 advantage at the half and an 81-16
lead after three.
Palmer Ridge used a 21-9 burst in
the fourth quarter to pull ahead of and away from Discovery Canyon
for a 60-51 win. The Bears moved to 14-8 overall and 6-1 in the
Pioneer League, while the Thunder slipped to 7-12 and 1-7. Collin
Babcock paced PRHS with 19 points as Forrest Dyer and Eric Marty
each added 12. Stone Hood and McKay Lyman scored 13 each for the
Pine Creek slipped to 3-18 and
1-13 in the 5A Metro with a heartbreaking 49-47 loss at Liberty.
Steven Aldaz led the Eagles with 19 points in defeat.
TCA closed out its season with a
42-36 victory over Peyton, improving to 5-12 overall and 3-8 in the
Life Academy moved to 8-5 on the
season with a 67-48 win over Early Colleges of Pueblo. Gabe Watkins
led the Minutemen with 25 points and nine rebounds, while Mark
Palmisano added 24 points, 14 boards and six blocks and Crestin
Veith put up 19 points and grabbed 12 boards.
Feb. 16 Girls Basketball
TCA topped Peyton 43-37 as Bailey
and McKenna Haist led the Titans with nine and eight points
respectively. Shanah Leaf added six points and 17 rebounds for TCA,
who closed the regular season at 13-5 and 7-4 in the

Pine Creek bounced back to top Liberty, 52-39, to move to 14-8 on
the season and 9-6 in the 5A Metro. Aurielle Sutton paced the
Eagles with 14 points, while Shannon Kelly added 10.
Mesa Ridge moved to 20-2 on the
season, topping Lewis-Palmer (9-13, 7-7 4A Metro) by a score of
67-37. Kai Brown and Morgan Griffin led the Rangers with 12 and 11
Palmer Ridge (6-16, 3-4 Pioneer)
took care of visiting Discovery Canyon (7-12, 0-8) by a final tally
of 48-31. Jordan Bryant paced the Bears with 16 points and six
rebounds, while Nikki Rosas led DCC with eight points in the
Thunder’s season finale.
Feb. 17 Basketball
The Bears closed out the regular
season at 15-8 overall, topping Legend 46-31 and finishing in a tie
for first with Valor Christian at 7-1 in the Pioneer League. Collin
Babcock led the Bears with 20 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks
in the season finale, while Richard Hansen added eight points, 10
rebounds and three blocks of his own. The league title and
automatic playoff birth were decided Friday morning Feb. 17 by a
coin flip. With the landing of heads the Bears are guaranteed a
place in the 4A state playoffs, while Valor will have to sweat it
out on Selection Sunday.
The Palmer Ridge girls finished
the season at 6-17 overall and 3-5 in the Pioneer, losing to

Dolores Huerta eliminated the
Discovery Canyon girls from 3A District play. No score was
The Discovery Canyon boys picked
up their first postseason win, defeating James Irwin (11-9) in
district play, 52-49, on the road. Jon Parker led the Thunder
(8-12) with 20 points as Stone Hood chipped in 13.
Feb. 19 Basketball
Life Academy closed out its season
at 9-5 with a 79-34 win over Cedarwood Christian in Denver as Mark
Palmisano dropped 49 points and added 19 rebounds. Crestin Veith
scored 26 for the Minutemen, while Caleb Causewell added nine
rebounds and six steals.
The Ranger boys finished out the
regular season at 18-5 and 13-2 in the 4A Metro with a 76-57 win at
Mitchell. Josh Scott scored 27 for LP, while Kyle Englehardt added
13 and Tommy Snyder and Seth Cavera both scored 10.
The LP girls were outscored 10-3
in the fourth quarter, losing the season finale to Mitchell, 38-35,
to fall to 9-14 and 7-8 in the Metro. Kai Brown recorded 11 points
and 11 blocks in the loss.
Despite a one-point lead going
into the final frame the Pine Creek boys fell 65-58 at Palmer,
closing out the season at 3-19 and 1-14 in the 5A Metro. Devin
Kastrup and Landon Rogers each scored 11 for the Eagles.
The Pine Creek girls dropped a
69-53 decision to Palmer, finishing the season at 14-9 and 9-7 in
the Metro. Carly Detter and Shannon Kelly each scored 10 in
Feb. 20 Basketball 3A
Behind 21 points from Kaitlin
Hanenburg, TCA routed Dolores Huerta 62-36 in 3A District action,
moving to 14-5 on the season.
The Discovery Canyon Boys (8-13)
were eliminated by Salida (14-6) by a score of 50-35. Jon Parker
led DCC with 15 points in the second round 3A District
The Classical Academy boys fell to
St. Mary's in District action, 45-37, ending the Titans'
