Getting a taste for art at Monument Academy

Posted

Hundreds of hungry guests gathered at Monument Academy for a food tasting, art show, silent auction and live performances at the school's first-ever “Eat Your Art Out” fundraising event.

On April 13, this fundraiser for the academy's fine arts department drew together 10 food providers for a taste-off. Participants tasted everything from green chili and pierogis from The Parked Pierogi to several different kinds of pulled pork and brisket barbeque from Texas Road House, Bird Dog BBQ and Broken Bones BBQ.

Art was also in evidence as nearly a year's worth of art projects were prominently displayed on stands in the gym. Performing arts were also highlighted with performances by the Monument Academy Jazz Band, dance teams, pianists and even a hula hoop demonstration.

The silent auction featured donated items from local businesses as well as two art pieces made by students, a fantasy easel called “Under the Sea” and a painted chair titled “Africa Adventures.”
