Foundation seeking applications for grants

The Monument Hill Foundation, the granting arm of the Monument Hill Kiwanis Club, is once again seeking applicants for the 2013-2014 granting year.

The foundation will start distributing grants in October and the deadline for all grant applications is the end of June. The grants will be distributed through September of 2014. The foundation was started in 2010 and gives to many different organizations throughout Northern El Paso County.

“Our priority is the Tri-Lakes area and as Kiwanians we support youth but we aren't exclusive to it,” Scott Ross, granting director, said.

Over the years the foundation has supported the Tri-Lakes Health Advocacy Partnership, Tri-Lakes Views, CASA of the Pikes Peak Region, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Lewis-Palmer School District 38 Adaptive Physical Education and Griffiths Center for Children, Soap Box Derby, Ronald McDonald House Charities Mobile Clinic, Tri-Lakes Monument Fire Protection District and the Tri-Lakes Athletic Association, plus many more.

“We think it's important the community knows what the foundation is and what it does,” Ross added.

The foundation gives mostly to non-profits but has given to other organizations as well. Last granting year the foundation received grant requests in the amount of $70,000 and was able to give approximately $40,000 to 26 organizations.

Money for the grants comes from fundraisers such as Bingo and the Palisade peach sales as well as other internal club activities.

“We expect it to be $40,000 that we give to the community this year. We hope to grow that. In fact we expect to,” Ross said.

To apply for a grant go to www.monumenthillfoundation.org. All applications must be in by June 30. For questions send an email to granting@monumenthillfoundation.org.

Ross said this past year the foundation gave to a number of organizations that they had never given to before and they want to increase that number.
