Drivers wanted for Soap Box Derby

Calling all drivers, young drivers that is, for the greatest amateur racing event in the world. This year’s Pikes Peak Soap Box Derby Race will be held on June 9 but the practice and race rally are on June 2.

Monument Hill Kiwanis Club is one of the proud sponsors of the Pikes Peak Soap Box Derby, with club members working with girls and boys to inspire fair and honest competition.

The first Soap Box Derby was run in 1933 and was an immediate sensation with 345 young contestants showing up with their homemade derby vehicles.

The thrill of the All-American Soap Box Derby competition continues to this day.

The goal of the Pikes Peak Soap Box Derby program is to promote families working together to teach kids some of the basic skills of workmanship, the spirit of competition and the perseverance to continue a project to completion.
