Minimal amounts of precipitation fell on the fire yesterday. Fire behavior remained minimal with fewer and fewer hotspots being found. Firefighters continued to grid for hotspots in the fire area particularly around homes, suppressing any they found. Progress on containment goals continue to be reached.
Today’ Forecast and Activity
A Red Flag Warning has been issued for this afternoon and early evening for high winds, higher temps and low relative humidity. This change in the weather from afternoon thunderstorms to hot and windy conditions will test the work of firefighters over the last several days. Stubborn hotspots caused by stumps and debris piles will become more evident, allowing firefighters to easily locate and extinguish them.
Firefighters continue to finish the three rounds of gridding around homes, extinguishing any remaining areas of concern. The goal is to mark off homes as “cleared”, allowing residents to return to their homes. Mop up continues throughout the fire area. Because of hotter and dryer weather conditions, firefighters will also be on the alert for any initial attack activity outside the confines of this fire. Should there be any new fire starts, resources from this fire will assist local fire agencies in response.
Numerous resources are continuing to be released today as containment goals are reached. These resources are available to respond to other incidents.
Evacuations and Closures
Evacuated residents on most of the fire will be allowed to return to their homes today. For specific information pertaining to evacuations and area closures go to BFFassistance.com, www.elpasoco.com or contact the Joint Information Center at 719-444-8300.
