Al Jubeir, Sheikh Abdullah meet with Pakistan's Prime Minister, Foreign Minister

Since they were partitioned in 1947, the two countries have fought three wars - in 1948, 1965 and 1971 - two of them over Kashmir, in addition to a three-week long Kargil skirmish in 1999.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday said the worldwide community had the responsibility to urge India to halt and reverse its illegal actions and aggressive policies and postures in Occupied Kashmir, and Saudi Arabia and the UAE had an important role in that regard.

Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi welcomed Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir, and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the UAE, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan in Islamabad on September 4, 2019.

According to sources, delegations of both countries held a meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan at PM's Office in Islamabad for about 40 minutes.

Also on Wednesday, the Emirates Center For Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) said in a report that Saudi Arabia and the UAE share a strong relation, considered one of the most important, not only between two brothers, but also at the regional and worldwide level. Authorities imposed a sweeping military curfew that's still in place, and cut off residents from all communication and the internet.

Prime Minister Imran Khan this week warned of the risk of war with India, but said Pakistan would not act first. Mobile phone services have yet to be restored.

Asrar Ahmed Khan, 18, from the region's main city Srinagar, died on Tuesday night in hospital, succumbing to wounds he suffered a month ago, officials said.

The UAE caused further outrage among Kashmiris by awarding Narendra Modi with its highest honour and backing India's stripping of Kashmir's nominal autonomy.

The scrapping of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir has had its effects being felt from across the world. The Pakistani foreign ministry later said his comments did not represent any changes to nuclear policy. A United Nations Security Council resolution promised a UN-sponsored referendum on Kashmir's "final disposition" that has never been held.

The Indian military said on Wednesday it had detained two suspected members of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba militant group when they were trying to cross into Indian Kashmir.

Media have reported at least two other deaths during protests, but authorities have denied that.
