Kelly, already under indictment for similar charges in IL, allegedly offered the girl, who was 17 years old at the time, $200 to dance naked with him in a hotel room, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said as he announced two counts against the singer, including engaging in prostitution with someone under 18 and offering to hire someone under 18 for sexual purposes.
The Minnesota indictment is the latest in a tangle of charges against Kelly, who's faced accusations of abuse and manipulation of underage girls and women for more than 20 years.
Kelly, 52, spent decades as one of the most successful hit-makers in R&B, despite constant rumors of a seemingly pathological attraction to underage girls.
During Monday's press conference, Freeman said "there was some talk" of the girl traveling to Chicago to see the singer, but she was not able to contact Kelly using the phone number he had provided her with, according to the Star Tribune.
Hennepin County's court computer network was not working Monday, meaning the charging documents against Kelly were not yet accessible. When she called, she was directed to his hotel in Minneapolis and was met by someone she believed was a male member of his staff.

Police are investigating the incident as product tampering. "I think someone took it off the shelf and did something to it". But as Rose stepped out of her shower, she said she was suddenly overcome by a "foul odour" lurking in the air.
The attorney added that teenage girl had confided in her older brother about the incident at the time, but "did not come forward until all these other allegations about R. Kelly" surfaced. She told police the incident happened when the musician was in Minneapolis for a concert. In my view, too many prosecutors are ignoring victims. He is being held in federal custody in Chicago. It doesn't disturb me whatsoever that it may not go to trial, as long as he spends time for the crimes he's committed elsewhere - but I can't be sure of that unless I'm at the table. "By charging this case, we are at the table".
The 52-year-old is now being held without bail awaiting trial on charges of sexual assault, child pornography and obstruction of justice in Chicago and NY.
Steve Greenberg, the outspoken attorney that has stood by Kelly's side for months, has already chimed in on the new charges, calling them "beyond absurd". Kelly has pleaded not guilty to all counts.
He began facing renewed scrutiny earlier this year upon the release of the docu-series "Surviving R. Kelly", which nabbed an Emmy nomination for outstanding informational series or special.
