Police Say Ohio Shooter Connor Betts Killed His Own Sister

Nine people in OH were killed in the second mass shooting in the United States in less than 24 hours, and the suspected shooter is also deceased, police said.

The incident started at 01:00 am local time (07: 00 CEST) and officers who were in the "immediate vicinity" in the city's OR district "were able to respond and put an end to it quickly", police added. Within approximately 20 seconds, six officers were running toward the hail of bullets pouring from the shooter's.223-caliber high capacity rifle with 100-round drum magazines.

Police identified the shooter as 24-year-old Connor Betts.

Biehl's said the man has been questioned by police and they are attempting to glean information that will help them piece together the shooter's whereabouts after the group parted ways. The FBI is assisting with the investigation, Carper said.

The tweets from Dayton police early Sunday did not include further details, but described the Oregon District shooting as "a large scene and investigation".

The Ohio shooting was the third major outbreak of US gun violence, coming seven days after a teenager killed three people with an assault rifle at a food festival in Northern California before taking his own life.

Whaley said she has been in touch with the White House, though not Trump directly, and with DeWine.

A vigil will be held at 20:00 local time in the OR district where the attack happened, Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley announced.

"There isn't much discrimination in the shooting", Assistant Police Chief Matt Carper told reporters.
