Tetris Royale making its way to Android, iOS devices

This first one is on its way, and it's called Tetris Royale.

The Verge reports that the game is a mobile version of Tetris 99. If it's not already obvious, the game involves the game of Tetris, battled out among 100 players.

Tetris Royale is still in development, but its beta is expected to launch in "select territories" sometime this year on iOS and Android mobile devices. These include a solo marathon mode and daily challenges that will allow players to earn various rewards, such as customization options and in-game power-ups.

Tetris 99, as an idea, is plenty insane.

"Our team at N3TWORK is inspired to partner with this incredible brand and create new ways for millions of mobile game players around the world to play, compete and enjoy Tetris at an unprecedented scale".

Formed through a partnership with The Tetris Company and N3twork, Royale is attempting to up 99 in one key area: they've added another player!

Though initially popularized as a single player game, notably through its success as a Nintendo Game Boy title in the late 1980s and early 1990s and on numerous platforms since, competitive multiplayer variations have players sending their own completed lines over to their opponent's stack.

N3twork previously developed puzzle-oriented role-playing game Legendary: Game of Heroes and used its experience to become a distribution and monetization company. We don't have a release date beyond the promise of limited in beta testing in 2019.
