OnePlus admits it sent weird notifications to OnePlus 7 Pro owners

OnePlus first tweeted out a statement apologizing for the error and stating that it would investigate. OnePlus says that the push notification functionality in OxygenOS exists "mainly as a survey tool", and is based on Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging protocol, which means that no personal data was at risk with these rogue push notifications. This was all a big testing error.

OnePlus has posted an apology on their official forum and on its social media platforms for two accidental push notification messages sent to a number of OnePlus 7 Pro users approximately two hours ago.

As soon as we noticed the mistake, we performed a round of in-depth investigations with the related teams to identify the cause. We probably won't see notifications appear out of the blue like this again, as OnePlus says that it's "immediately implementing new processes to ensure this can not happen again".

Are these push notifications normal? In no short time, the push notifications had started generating mixed reactions with some fans wondering if OnePlus has been hacked.

Tapping on the notification led to nowhere while users can dismiss the notification.

If you think you might have missed that during setup, head into Settings System Experience improvement programs to turn on or off any of those three.
