Joe Biden's quasi-pledge to enlist a female as his 2020 running mate comes on the heels of Kamala Harris gaining on his lead in the polls after she mercilessly attacked him at the Democratic Party presidential debate for being insensitive on race relations issues, primarily for praising two white segregationists as examples in political civility.
The campaign said almost half a million dollars this quarter came from its online store, which sold at least 1,400 "That Little Girl Was Me" T-shirts that feature a photo of Harris as a young school girl.
The former vice president also downplayed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's (D-N.Y.) victory over Rep. Joe Crowley a year ago and suggested her ideas don't have broad appeal.
The senator's debate performance also gave Harris a big boost in the latest polls, vaulting her into second place behind Biden in some of the surveys. "If we got back to the point where governments were actively opposing integration, yes", Harris said, "I could imagine that would be when the courts would have to step in". "You had overwhelming response from the African American community in my state...they did not support it".Читайте также: 45% of Democrats say Biden has the best chance of defeating Trump
Asked about the need to clarify his record a week after the debate, Biden criticized the time limits and sparring by the 10 candidates.
Pressed for clarification on her stance, Harris said: "I believe that any tool that is in the toolbox should be considered by a school district".
Since the debate moment, Harris and her campaign have struggled to explain her own position on busing to desegregate schools today. Biden said he wants to triple funding for low-income schools and make preschool accessible from the age of three. Harris is one of 23 Democrats seeking the 2020 presidential nomination. What I do know, and it's the good news and the bad news: "the American people think they know me, and they know me".
According to the campaign, Harris raised $2 million in the 24 hours after the first debate, the most they have raised since launching in January, and another $1.2 million online over the weekend.
"I was impressed by her debate performance, she certainly could stand up to Trump - she's forceful, but she stays calm". 'If we keep doing that, that's, I mean, we should be debating what we do from here'. 'He's the bully that I knew my whole life. Show me something ahead of time, ' Biden said of North Korea, faulting Trump for his openness with the rogue nation and its leader, Kim Jong Un.При любом использовании материалов сайта и дочерних проектов, гиперссылка на обязательна.
