Disney has finally cast the lead role in its live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, and fans are elated that Ariel will be played by Halle Bailey.
The director has spent months meeting with talent, and insiders claim that Bailey has been a clear front runner from day one of auditions.
The casting for the live-action The Little Mermaid has really picked up steam these past few weeks, with Melissa McCarthy said to be in talks to play Ursula.
Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda is producing the movie alongside film musical legend Marshall (who made Chicago, Mary Poppins Returns and Into The Woods).

News of the casting were met with praise on Twitter, with many commenting on the significance of casting a young black woman for the role of Ariel. Some of the tunes include 'Under the Sea, ' "Part of Your World" and 'Kiss the Girl'.
Filming is expected to begin in 2020.
