Tiger Woods proud of opportunity to tie Sam Snead's PGA Tour record

While Woods can't get any closer to Nicklaus' record this week, he can tie Sam Snead's record of 82 PGA Tour victories, but he will have to do it against the strong field that always shows up at Muirfield Village to play homage to the man considered the greatest golfer of all-time.

But the genesis of Muirfield Village Golf Club and the Memorial Tournament dates to 1966, when, just before the start of that year's Masters Tournament, legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus confided to one of his good friends, Ivor Young, that he wanted to start an event in Columbus that would be as exceptional as the Masters. "There has been 10 years where I have won five or more tournaments, so you need multiple winning seasons like that". Recent winners Justin Rose, Matt Kuchar, Hideki Matsuyama, and Jason Dufner are also present.

Course Record: 61, John Huston (2nd round, 1996). He finished T40 a year ago but has picked up three top 10s in his 17 events this season. "What happened between 1 and that (18), it's really not important".

Tiger Woods looked to be a lot more comfortable at the Memorial than he was at the PGA Championship. He chipped in twice Thursday and was second in strokes gained, around the green. He is the author of three books and has contributed to three others, including the second edition of "Golf For Dummies", with Gary McCord. Justin Thomas is also in the field this week after not playing since The Masters due to a wrist injury suffered at The Honda Classic.

Spieth is winless since the 2017 Open Championship, but ended a 10-month drought without a top-10 over the last two weeks, as the Texan finished T3 at the PGA Championship and T8 last week at the Charles Schwab Challenge. Ranks 7th scoring average, 14th SG: Putting and 23rd birdie average.

The world number four carded a disappointing three over par 75 on Thursday, among the worst scores of the morning starters at Muirfield Village.

Ferrari is clearly feeling the pressure with Mercedes finishing 1-2 in all five races this season. Asked about the threats, Hamilton said: "Hopefully the weather stays something like Saturday".

But something went amiss previous year.

Tony FInau was having a bit of a shaky 2019 until breaking through last week with a runner-up finish. T13-T4-T4 in his last three starts at Memorial, where he won in 2013.

On the par-3 fourth, his tee shot was buried in the slope of a mound above the bunker.

"There's no reason why I can't get up to speed again and crank it back up", the 43-year-old Woods said after the PGA. Spieth had not finished better than 20th since a tie for 12th this past September at the Dell Technologies Championship. However, he missed the cut last week in the Charles Schwab Challenge and also missed the weekend in his first start in the Memorial previous year. Was T2 here in 2012.

T8 last week after consecutive 69s, and will come in to this week with confidence for his Memorial debut.
