Gunmen storm luxury hotel in Pakistan port city of Gwadar

The army spokesmen's office said three terrorists had attempted to enter the Pearl Continental Hotel, opening fire on guards.

Gunmen attacked a hotel in Pakistan's southwestern port city of Gwadar on May 11 and were battling security forces while helicopters circled overhead, officials said.

At least three terrorists stormed into PC Hotel Gwadar.

The recent reports stated that a security guard lost his life due to the firing of terrorists. He said the details would be shared with the media once the operation is over.

Meanwhile, the information minister of Balochistan (where Gwadar is located) told local Dunya News that all hotel visitors and staff were safely evacuated, adding that the security forces are now fighting the attackers.

He said that some of the guests in the hotel were also injured but their number was not immediately known.

Several militant groups operate in Balochistan, including the Pakistani Taliban, the separatist Balochistan Liberation Army and the Sunni Muslim extremist group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.

Following the attack, Frontier Corps personnel and policemen have cordoned off the area.

The provincial police chief further said that "the attackers may have come in a boat to launch the attack".

Violence in Pakistan has dropped significantly since the country's deadliest-ever militant attack, an assault on a school in the northwestern city of Peshawar in 2014 that killed more than 150 people - majority children.

Beijing has built and operationalized the massive Gwadar port under a multi-billion-dollar bilateral mega-project, known as China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

And now the group has vowed to wage war on China, saying people should "expect more attacks" there and in Pakistan.

Balochistan province is Pakistan's poorest and most restive.
