Based on the details of Morgan Burnett's contract with the Cleveland Browns, those of us who thought he was maybe competing for a job at safety need to recalibrate. The Steelers played Burnett primarily at dime linebacker during his one season in Pittsburgh, but the former Green Bay Packers veteran is hoping to return to safety.

Burnett, 30, is expected to sign a two-year deal, according to the report.

Green Bay Packers safety Morgan Burnett (42) celebrates following a tackle during the first quarter against the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field. Burnett started two games.

The Browns acquired defensive back Eric Murray from Kansas City on Monday in a trade for defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah.

And today's news confirmed early rumors that Cleveland was deemed as the early favorites to land Burnett in the wake of his release.

He's logged 713 tackles, nine interceptions, nine fumble recoveries and forced eight fumbles. Among them is former Texas and SMU quarterback Garrett Gilbert, who will go into 2019 with a brand new National Football League team.

Gilbert was selected in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Rams.

Gilbert now goes from lighting up a spring league to the Browns, where he'll enter a quarterback room that features another former Lake Travis star: Baker Mayfield. He ended up bouncing around the league, never making an NFL appearance, until the final game of the 2018 season, when he threw three passes for the Carolina Panthers.

Gilbert spent the 2017 season with the Panthers as a practice squad player.
