The president said he believed Kim's claim that he didn't know what happened to Otto Warmbier, who died at age 22 days after being sent back to the United States in 2017.
Bolton also said the potential for denuclearization remains with President Trump, previously extending he would like to keep the relationship between the US and North Korea.

The White House did not immediately respond to questions about why the hearing would have contributed to Trump's decision not to accept Kim's terms or whether members of the North Korean negotiating team indicated they were aware of the split-screen news coverage in the U.S.
Trump has repeatedly complained about the cost of the exercises and, since 2017's Singapore summit, the USA and Seoul have scaled back or scrapped several joint exercises.
