Patriots lose Trey Flowers, Trent Brown to free agency

Defensive end Trey Flowers is signing with Detroit, per Adam Schefter.

Amendola and Patricia spent a half-decade together in New England before both left for more money elsewhere in 2018.

With the expected signing of two-time Super Bowl victor Trey Flowers, the Detroit Lions will field a very talented defense in 2019 that includes the likes of defensive tackle Damon Harrison, the team's 2018 sack leader in defensive end Romeo Okwara, and last year's rookie steal in defensive lineman Da'Shawn Hand.

He missed one game with an injury previous year, against, coincidentally, Detroit. The deal is for five years, according to Ian Rapoport, and in the neighborhood of $16-$18 million per year.

Sherrod Brown Not Running For President In 2020
Brown is now one of four Democrats who have announced in the last week that they would not run for President in 2020. Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg also confirmed he wouldn't be running.

Earlier on Monday, ESPN reported that offensive tackle Trent Brown is leaving the Patriots for the Oakland Raiders, where he will become the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL.

The Lions can officially sign Flowers when the new league year opens on Wednesday.

Amendola was released by the Dolphins last week, which gave Miami about $6 million in extra cap space to work with under new head coach Brian Flores. That is a subjective designation, but last year the top nickel CB contract went to T.J. Carrie, who signed with the Cleveland Browns for $31 million over 4 years with $15.5 million guaranteed.
