In many instances, authorities said the children were unaware that their parents had paid these bribes.

Loughlin appeared in the ABC sitcom "Full House", and Huffman starred in ABC's "Desperate Housewives".

USA actress Lori Loughlin surrendered to authorities on Wednesday (March 13) and was to appear in a Los Angeles court to face charges in a massive college admissions scam involving other celebrities and top industry chief executives.

Federal agents secretly recorded telephone calls with Huffman and a cooperating witness, which allegedly show Huffman agreeing to pay the large sum of money in order to help her daughter get a higher SAT score, according to the indictment.

"This case is about the widening corruption of elite college admissions through the steady application of wealth combined with fraud", Lelling said.

In many cases, the students were not aware that their parents had arranged for the cheating, prosecutors said, although in other cases they knowingly took part. According to Variety, the judge also specified that Loughlin would be allowed to speak to her daughters and husband about the charges, but to no one else connected with the case.

Cause of death of Shamima Begum's son Jarrah is revealed
The infant's father, a Dutch ISIS fighter who was captured and is being held in a nearby prison, was informed of the baby's death. The lawyer for Shamima Begum's family says there are "strong but as yet unconfirmed reports " that her baby son has died.

The authorities said the scheme began in 2011 and helped children get into Yale University, the University of Southern California (USC), the University of Texas, Georgetown University, Wake Forest University and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Loughlin allegedly gave $500,000 to say that her child was part of the rowing team when it was not true, People magazine reported. The actress was one of 50 people wrapped up in the $25 million college admissions cheating scandal.

An FBI spokeswoman said that a tactical team was not used to arrest the actress "but all FBI agents are armed and may draw their weapons as a precautionary measure based on the circumstances during the execution of any warrant", she added.

The scheme involved parents paying bribes of between $100,000 to $2.5 million to get their children into elite schools. Academic officials, including the former women's soccer coach at Yale University are also facing charges. Loughlin was expected to appear in federal court on conspiracy charges Wednesday afternoon. Huffman allegedly discussed a similar scheme for her younger daughter but ultimately decided against it.

Huffman is accused of hatching a plan with Singer and her husband, William H. Macy, in the couple's home.

Huffman, 56, and Loughlin, the 54-year-old star of "Full House", were among 33 parents accused of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud in joining the scheme. Giannulli was released Tuesday after posting a $1 million bond.
