Kim Jong-un back in Pyongyang after Vietnam trip

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un returned home on Tuesday after traveling two and a half days by train from Vietnam, where his high-stakes nuclear summit with President Donald Trump ended without any agreement.

Rogers said the U.S.'s ending military exercises with South Korea was a victory for Kim Jong-un and North Korea, not a savings of hundreds of millions of dollars for the US, which is what Trump claims.

After sending out his National Security Adviser John Bolton to the Sunday talk shows to describe the summit as a success, Trump showed his frustration about the results by lashing out at Democrats.

He also told CNN's "New Day" that he doesn't buy Trump's claim that his former attorney Michael Cohen's congressional hearings led in part to his walking away from the Hanoi summit.

"For the Democrats to interview in open hearings a convicted liar & fraudster, at the same time as the very important Nuclear Summit with North Korea, is perhaps a new low in American politics and may have contributed to the "walk", Trump said on Twitter.

The breakdown of the second Trump-Kim summit - held February 27-28 in Hanoi, Vietnam - was a setback for the South, which is eager to advance inter-Korean economic projects and prevent a new conflict on the divided peninsula.

North Korean state-run media have so far refrained from criticizing the U.S. about the Kim-Trump summit that ended without an agreement.

"Sometimes you have to walk and this was just one of those times", Trump said at the time.

Rep. Adam Schiff, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, summarized the summit as a "spectacular failure" made all the worse by Trump's comments on "murder of an American citizen, Otto Warmbier".

Moon said Seoul will continue to push ahead with inter-Korean engagement within the boundaries of US -led global sanctions against the North. Moon has prioritized stabilizing bilateral relations with the North amid the larger nuclear negotiations between Washington and Pyongyang, saying inter-Korean reconciliation will drive nuclear progress.

Konstantin Asmolov, an expert from the Center for Korean Studies, argued that Kim had little motivation to make an agreement with Trump, as he soon may not be in charge.

But the president never specifically but the blame on Kim, which many lawmakers and Warmbier's family said the blame is to fall.

"Look, foreign leaders who are friends of ours lie to our face as well", he continued. He also called for pushing ahead with inter-Korean projects now hindered by sanctions and said the two sides discussed the "partial" lifting of sanctions - backing North Korea's version of events.

Still, Washington and Seoul are committed to keeping an atmosphere of dialogue alive and announced on Sunday that they would be eliminating their massive springtime military drills and replacing them with smaller exercises in what they call an effort to support diplomacy with Pyongyang.

Bolton said while Trump accepts what Kim said, it does not mean he accepts it as reality.

"It is important for professional armies to train and maintain to a standard of readiness", the top USA commander on the peninsula, Gen. Robert Abrams, and South Korea's Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Park Han-ki, said Sunday.

"This is, I think, the result of a president who is not prepared for these kind of negotiations, a staff that is not well-prepared and that is essentially flying by the seat of its trousers, and it has real-world consequences", Schiff said.

"And so, it frightened a lot of people, and of course the lying president said that I had threatened all of his constituents", Waters added.
