She was reportedly at home with her husband, Dion, when she began complaining she couldn't breathe. "He called 911, continuing to do CPR until paramedics arrived".

She had battled cervical cancer, meningitis, and lupus, and her previous partner, the father of her daughter Hannah, had died from cancer when Hannah was only four years old.

The singer, who reached top 11 on the singing contest show, was rushed to a hospital where she later died.

She quickly became one of Cyrus' favorites on the show thanks to her impressive vocal talents and ability to execute awesome performances week after week on stage (as you can see in a video of one of Freeman's performances, above!).

Freeman's friend Crystal Lewis, also a gospel singer, remembered Freeman on Instagram, writing, "We only met in person one time but we continued to communicate and I have to say few people IN MY WHOLE LIFE were as encouraging". It appears a blood clot traveled to her heart, according to TMZ.

But she knew there was a lot of "turmoil was going on" between Khloe and Tristan and she didn't want to "throw fuel on the fire". Pinkett Smith agreed: "You know what they say, black women can be the most disregarded and disrespected people on Earth".

Last year, the star publicly spoke out about her friendship with Miley Cyrus, and thanked her for giving her financial support when she needed it most.

Freeman's blind audition for "The Voice" saw her perform a rendition of Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive", which turned Jennifer Hudson and Cyrus' chairs. "You got somebody that got your back".

Cyrus had remained involved in Freeman's post-Voice life by helping her get established with new housing for several months until she was able to obtain a permanent residence. "This represents you perfectly".

Cyrus posted a tribute on Instagram to Freeman.

Her cause of death was not immediately known.
