After telling Dave Feschuk of the Toronto Star that his client was being "lowballed" by the Leafs during negotiations, Ferris has had to do some damage control, telling local radio stations the comments were in reference to summer negotiations.
And as coach Mike Babcock noted, it could be the last one 86-year-old Bob Cole calls at Toronto's home rink.
"[Rielly] made a great play skating and then got it to me", Hyman said.
"We understand the cap restraints we have and the league and every single team has", Matthews said. "I can't speak for what's to come, but we're happy Auston is here and we can't worry about anything else". He's a great player, he's a big part of this team and plays a lot of minutes.
The irony of Mitch Marner's contract becoming the distraction du jour around the Toronto Maple Leafs is that Marner seems like the last guy who would ever sweat the status of a contract not set to expire for another 145 days yet.
Matthews, who has 97 goals and 81 assists in 182 National Hockey League games, won the Calder Trophy as the NHL's best rookie for the 2016-17 campaign and helped Toronto reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs in each of his first two seasons. "Just believe in yourself and trust the process. Maybe I'm a little stronger (for that experience)". The addition of Muzzin has fortified the blue line, also helping the Leafs turn the corner and start stringing wins together. "Again, the market will dictate the market at that time and I'm sure there will be continued banter back and forth between us and them".
SCOTUS blocks Louisiana abortion law from taking effect
But the federal appeals court in New Orleans upheld the law, concluding it was not certain that any clinic would have to close. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, and a three-judge panel voted 2 to 1 to allow the state law to go into effect.
"The bottom line is I thought we were really ready to play".
Ferris has tried to backtrack on his comments saying negotiations were ended on a positive note, but it doesn't change his viewpoint and what Marner's might be.
It's the first meeting of the Ontario rivals since October 6, with two more games to come in Ottawa in March.
I wouldn't be surprised if Marner, who's from Markham, Ont., asks for the same amount of money as Matthews, arguing that they've put up very similar point totals since entering the league together in 2016-17, even though Marner has played almost 30 more games than his teammate. I've kind of told both parties that I don't really want to be informed until something's about to happen.
"Those guys are all going to be signed", Babcock said. There will be a timeout tribute for Cole during the game. Either he needs to be more cautious with what he says in the media, or the Marner camp needs to get this deal done sooner rather than later. His voice, you've heard it as a kid.
